Joel's last photo before our interview for the podcast was in 2016 in front of an open door exiting the venue. Unknown to us, he would also exit archives for quite a while. Shortly after this photo was taken, Joel got sober, started a basketball tournament, and became an author. Almost ten years later, he'll be releasing a new book on July 14, 2026.

Just because you do comedy for a while doesn't mean you must do comedy always and forever. It was a joy to hear how Joel carried forward great takeaways from comedy and left some other things behind.
